Sergio Pininfarina, one of the greatest automotive designers the world has ever seen, passed away Tuesday.

Pininfarina was at the helm of his family’s renowned design firm for 40 years, and he designed cars for Alfa Romeo, Cadillac, Ferrari, Jaguar, Maserati, Rolls-Royce and others.

Some of his most notable works include Ferrari’s Dino, the brand’s first street-legal mid-engined car; the 1961 Ferrari 250 GT that Cameron destroys in Ferris Bueller’s Day Off; the 2003 Maserati Quattroporte; and the 2004 Ferrari Scaglietti.

The 85-year-old legend passed away in his home in Turin.
