George Clooney’s love affair with exotic race cars is well-known, as is his passion for social justice around the world. Both of these passions come together August 19 at the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance when auctioneer Gooding & Company will present Clooney’s 2008 Tesla roadster.
Number eight in a series of 100, Clooney’s Tesla has only racked up 1,700 miles since 2008. Adding value to the car is the car’s single-owner provenance, as well as “historical significance; limited-edition rarity and philanthropic ties,” said David Gooding of Gooding & Company.
The proceeds from the sale of one of the world’s first electric sports cars will find a home in space, if Clooney has his way. The Satellite Sentinel program uses high tech satellites to watch over the border of newly separated South Sudan and North Sudan. With an uneven distribution of oil favoring South Sudan, Clooney and other activists fret that the north’s greater industrialization and military might will eventually overrun the largely Christian south.
Gooding & Company hopes to raise $150,000 for Clooney’s car, which is about the price the actor paid for it in 2008.
