Reality show beneficiary and paparazzi target Kim Kardashian made headlines in June with her very public purchase of a Lamborghini Aventador LP 700-4. The 2012 Italian supercar was said to be a gift for Kardashian’s boyfriend Kanye West, who was seen test-driving a white Aventador with her earlier in the year.

Celebrity gossip site TMZ was quick to obtain photos that depicted the newly-purchased unit, dressed in lustrous black and glittering in the California sun. As if the $387,000 factory-built Lambo wasn’t enough, Kardashian contracted Platinum Motorsports of Los Angeles to put a personal spin on the hand-crafted car, replacing that shiny black paint job with a more masculine-looking matted grey.
The whole process is detailed in a video produced by Platinum Motorsports with sleek editing and set to a catchy hip-hop beat. The modifications appear to be purely cosmetic, unlike the efforts of Mansory and Oakley Designs. Attentive technicians are seen painstakingly deconstructing, applying several coats of matte grey paint and then reconstructing the modern Italian classic.
With all of its modifications, Kim spent about $750,000 on Kanye’s birthday. One has to wonder, though, if she got taken for a ride. A similar amount of money could have paid for a maximized Lamborghini-on-steroids from Mansory or Oakley Designs.
