Maserati has plans to launch a V-8 engined sports car likely to appear in 2015 carrying the GranSport name.

The model is set to bring a new level of performance to the Italian brand, and Maserati CEO Harold Wester told Evo that he wants the car to be ‘the most pure expression of Maserati sportiness possible.”

The GranSport name was last used on a high-performance version of the Maserati Coupe between 2004 and 2007, and it’ll be powered by Maserati’s 454-horsepower, 4.7-liter engine.

Wester estimates the new GranSport to be about 4.4 meters in length with lightweight construction using carbon fiber. Wester also aims to offer an aggressive price tag, which may undercut its rivals.

The new model is only a proposal so far, but with the enthusiastic backing of Maserati’s CEO, there’s a good chance that a similar model will be in production very soon.
