The manufacturers at Maserati are currently working on a brand competitor to the Porsche 911 and the Audi R8 in the form of an all-new two-seater sports car.
Powered by a new Ferrari-developed V6 engine, the mid-engined, driver-oriented halo car will feature rear-wheel drive and a carbon fiber chassis.
Maserati will probably name the high-performance vehicle GranSport. With increased speed and decreased weight compared to the rest of Maserati’s fleet, the car’s weight will only hit an estimated 2,646 pounds.
A twin-turbo V6 pushes the Maserati with over 450 horsepower, meaning the GranSport can power from 0 to 60 miles per hour in under 4 seconds.
Renderings show that Maserati’s newest creation will stay true to the marque’s signature designs combined with some bold, differentiating notes. It takes cues from the Alfa Romeo 4C.
Hold tight, the GranSport won’t make its debut until 2015.
