In the 1983 classic movie Risky Business, a 1979 Porsche 928 played host to one of Hollywood’s most legendary love scenes, featuring Tom Cruise and Rebecca De Mornay. That same 928 will be on the block this month at Profiles in History, an auction house that specializes in Hollywood memorabilia.

With 102,755 miles, a similar 1979 Porsche 928 would bring in an estimated $10,000. Profiles in History is counting on the unique provenance of the Risky Business Porsche to magnify that price at least four-fold, with an expected auction value of $40,000 to $60,000. Noting that the car is in working order, the auction house asserted in a press release that theirs is “the only known surviving, documentable car” from the film.

The V8, 219 horsepower 1979 model of the 928 saw a number of changes from previous models including the removal of the battery box from the gear box and placing it instead as an integrated part of the body.

The movie car also served as an instructional vehicle for Cruise, who was forced to learn to drive a stick shift for the role.

Other items up for auction include Patrick Stewart’s wheelchair from X-Men and a “proton pack” from Ghostbusters. Profiles in History is accessible in Calabasas, California and at www.profilesinhistory.com.
