The 2012 RM Auctions Monterey sale just made an impressive addition of two GT40s to the lot.
A 1968 Ford GT40 Gulf/Mirage P/1074 and an unrestored 1967 Ford GT40 MK I P/1059 will headline the sale on August 17 & 18 in California.
The 1968 Ford GT40 Gulf/Mirage Lightweight Racing Car, built for the J.W.A./Gulf team, sports the blue and marigold team colors. It has raced, been used as a camera car, raced again and been showcased on display. It was renovated just before its display at the 2003 Goodwood Festival of Speed.
The 1967 Ford GT40 Mk I is one of only 31 GT40 road cars. A pearly white hue is accented with blue stripes, a color scheme authorized by Ford. It bounced around to various owners before settling with its current owner in 2002. Mileage is impressively low: just 4,749 miles from new. It is estimated between $2,300,000 and $2,700,000
“The legendary Ford GT40 is without doubt one of the most celebrated and sought after motor cars ever built,” Shelby Myers, Managing Director of RM California, said.
“To have the honor of offering one GT40 is a great privilege, but to present two, spanning both sides of GT40 production, is extremely exciting…
Previously displayed together at the GT40 30th Anniversary Reunion in Elkhart Lake in 1994, we are thrilled to be reuniting the cars on the Monterey Peninsula in August, where we anticipate strong interest in their sale.”
